As required electronic filing claims affects us

The State of Minnesota recently mandated that all medical claims electronically sent from July 15, 2009. If you can not from Minnesota, you do not feel that this effect are on you, but it doesn't. It concerns us all.

Costs are cut down in any case with e-invoicing. Insurance companies and the Government wants all claims electronically to see. If Minnesota is effective with the introduction of electronic mandate, you can be sure that other States will follow. It is only a matter of time.

A very small percentage of the medical practices or billing can electronically send all their demands. Many small insurer or claims not able to accept electronically. How are we this great task to achieve? The real question is how this individual providers and billing services will have.

The provider in the State of Minnesota will be that at least have a computer with Internet access in the Office, or they have to hire someone, that can send the claims on their behalf. Do not laugh! We find still offices that don't have a computer. They need to buy any expensive practice management system, if they do not want. You can a good opportunity which pursue their claims on paper but I hope they are tracking claims. Anyone who has been in this business for any length of time knows of the Office, thousands of dollars or tens of thousands of dollars lost, by tracking not claims to ensure that they are paid.

The State HMO (the Minnesota Council of health plans) has commissioned the trade association with an independent company, which builds the software, which are medical offices available and billing services in the State of MN., to submit claims online. The biller will go to the website and enter the claim information and send it to the insurance company. The only problem with this is that the information will be again entered for tracking purposes. If the Office has a practice management system, all claims which had to be sent through this new system must be entered in the practice management system.

We don't know how this affects the smaller insurance companies in Minnesota who still do not receive electronic submissions were. I suppose, they creep up, get ready. Not only it has asked Minnesota that medical insurance claims electronically submitted, but they have also requested that all insurance periods or electronic transfer use advice (electronic Eobs). This is huge. Wire transfers make posting payments much quicker and easier, if you the means to send it automatically.

In any case, it is very interesting to see how it all works. All eyes are on Minnesota. We would be interested to hear from anyone in Minnesota and how it affects them.
